Bridal Alteration FAQ's
What happens in a fitting?
The first fitting is about us getting to know you and your dress. It’s an opportunity to discuss the amendments required to your gown to get it fitting beautifully and comfortability. You will need to try on your dress in our fitting room so that it can be pinned to your figure and height. This is the perfect time to make any other changes such as adding or removing any elements. Don’t be afraid to share your ideas with us as we will be able to advise you further and offer suggestions that you may not have thought of!
During your final fitting we check that everything fits you like a dream and that you are happy with the work carried out by us. The second fitting normally takes place 1-2 weeks before your big day. This allows us time should we need it to make any final adjustments.
How many fittings will I need?
2 Fittings are normal, but there may be occasions when 3 fittings are required. We include 2 x 30 minute appointments when you come to us. After this, appointment time is charged at £30 per hour.
How shall I prepare for my fitting?
Make sure you’ve had something light to eat and drink prior to your appointment as you may be standing for a long period of time. Please only bring bottled water to your fitting.
Who can I bring with me to my fitting?
We encourage you to bring someone along with you to share your experience. There is enough room for 2 friends or family members to watch the fitting process. Children are welcome, but we would advise that an adult is present to supervise them. We want all of the focus to be on you.
What should I wear to a fitting?
We may need to take your body measurements during your consultation so please wear clothes that allow accurate measurements to be taken. Loose and baggy clothing is not suitable as it will add inches and will distort your body shape.
Please also bring your shoes, underwear, petticoat (if you are wearing one) and a hair tie / clip.
How do we work on dresses?
Due to the volume of dresses we work on, we prioritise them in order of event date, not necessarily the order that they come into us. This helps to ensure that every dress is completed in time for the special event and allows us to focus fully on each dress. It’s completely natural for us to go quiet after your first fitting; this allows us to dedicate our attention to completing the alterations on your dress. We intentionally maintain this silence as we concentrate on the alterations required to ensure your dress fits you perfectly. Trust that we will contact you when we are ready.
How much should I budget for Alterations?
Alterations pricing is calculate individually for each dress, dependant on the style, fabric and the way it has been manufactured. We will do our best to give an estimate at your first fitting.
If your wedding dress requires standard adjustments such as taking up straps, taking up the skirt length with low to mid-volume skirts (1–3 layers), adding a bustle and minor alterations to enhance the gown’s fit then expect to pay £200 - £400
If your gown needs intensive alterations to achieve the ideal silhouette and fit expect to pay £300 - £600. This would include changes such as taking in multiple sizes or reshaping darts and side seams, taking up hems with 3+ layers or high-volume, intricate hems, reshaping the bust for a more customized fit, changing necklines.
For more significant and advanced changes, expect to pay £400 - £700.
Our prices include VAT. We take a £100 - £150 deposit upfront before we begin work on your gown. This is deductible from your final bill. The outstanding balance will be due at your final fitting. We can offer a payment plan if this helps to make it easier for you. This can be agreed before we commence work.
When should I book in for alterations?
We recommend contacting us as soon as you have purchased your dress - yes even before you have received it!
This will ensure we can book you into our calendar for your first fitting in plenty of time. (During peak seasons we get booked up very quickly and do not want to disappoint any of our customers).
We are usually able to accommodate any timeline although we do have to make a Rush Fee charge for any wedding alteration we must complete within less than 8 weeks:
2 - 4 weeks £95 4 - 6 weeks £85 6 - 8 weeks £75
